What is Ridge Climbing

In Korea, there are earthy mountains and rocky mountains. Many people enjoy hiking and ridge climbing. Ridge climbing signifies to ascend a sharp elevational crest of revealed steep rocks (mostly ascending sections of short and easy rock walls or peaks of the crest). The word ridge was originally not used to describe mountain crests, but it was popularly used by many mountaineers and became a climbing term.

Ridge climbing includes all different kinds: to hike along mountain crests, ascend short rock walls or peaks using physical balance, and to use professional rock climbing techniques to master difficult sections. Due to the fact that ropes are often used, it can also be called a training stage before going on real rock walls.

Regardless how short and easy rock wall sections might be, without correct rock climbing techniques, appropriate equipment and guidance of experienced mountaineers, serious accidents may occur. In fact, reckless climbing without sufficient climbing experience often lead to small and big accidents .
